The Game
In some ways, you just knew that it had to happen. ReBoot: Countdown to Chaos for Sony PlayStation was developed by Electronic Arts and featured a sprawling interactive storyline that took the player through the whole world of ReBoot.
In industry parlance, the game was a “shooter” that used an over-the-shoulder view as the visual convention. Gamers could step into Bob’s shoes as they maneuvered on his zipboard, traveling through sectors that spanned 19 levels of viral-blasting gameplay.
The story for Countdown to Chaos was created by the good folks at what was then known as Mainframe Entertainment. And, in a brilliant stroke, the voice actors from the original series were brought back to play their respective roles. But even with a lot of time, effort, and new animated scenes created exclusively for the game, reviews were mixed from fans and critics alike.
However, the game is still remembered today and, perhaps like a fine wine, it may have mellowed over time. Though they’re embarrassed to admit it, some users were first introduced to ReBoot through this PlayStation experience. And, of course, they are now avid fans of all manifestations of the ReBoot universe.
