The Journey Continues
ReBoot, Mainframe, and all of the characters live on because of fans like you. As we prepare ourselves to take the next step as an audience, let’s take a closer look at the role we played in the continuation of the property.
Rainmaker asked for your help to revive the world of Mainframe and turn it into some new and exciting. With ReBoot Revival, five writing teams pitched their own stories to take the story in a new direction. And we got some very new directions: some bold and compelling, others… not so much.
But fans could add their own artwork to be displayed in the pitches. In the end, a winner was chosen and it wasn’t even close. ReBoot: Arrival was the hands-down people’s choice to become an ongoing webcomic.
As part of the Relaunch process, the finest fan artists were commissioned to produce new works based on the ReBoot universe. Some were directly related to the stories; others were more fanciful works that encompassed pencils, inking and color treatments.
There were some serious sketchers our there but, sadly, due to production constraints, not all of their works could be implemented into the webcomic. But we have republished them here as a gallery of art, by fans just like you.
As part of the collaboration between the lead writer of ReBoot: Arrival and the fandom at large, one community member was asked to create a piece of fan fiction related to this new direction. Paired with an artist, she offered an even fresher take on a fresh take.
Again, this piece somehow wound up on the cutting room floor, but a quick trip to our archives (and a few messages to the writer) have brought it back to life. Now, for the first time, you’ll be able to read the illustrated version of Kim McFarland’s Vector.
